Iowa vs Iowa State, live stream 2017. Iowa football vs. Iowa State: 3 keys, game predictions
While it may not get the national publicity of a rivalry like Michigan vs. Ohio State, there’s no doubting the fact that the Hawkeyes and Cyclones have one of the most heated rivalries in college sports. But the matchup isn’t all on Iowa’s secondary. The defensive line, which played so well against Wyoming, will need to pressure and disrupt Park to give Iowa’s talented cornerback combination of Josh Jackson and Manny Rugamba an opportunity to make plays. These two schools don’t like each other, and while all of the other sports battle it out as well in the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk series, there’s just something in the air when these two football teams come together.
Here’s the good news for Iowa: This game will mark the 65th game of this series and the Hawkeyes currently hold a 42-22 advantage going all the way back to 1894. Also, Cyclones quarterback Jacob Park has elevated the offense since he became the starter late last season. Against Northern Iowa last week, Park completed 27 of 35 passes for 271 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Hawks are 18-8 while playing in Ames and they’ve won the last two on the road against Iowa State.
To make things even more daunting for ISU, the Hawkeyes clipped them in Iowa City last year, 42-3, putting up 435 total yards of offense while holding the Cyclones to only 291. This was in a down season for Iowa, remember. On one hand, Stanley did throw three touchdowns against Wyoming. He displayed some nice athleticism and he clearly wasn’t afraid to chuck it down the field.
